UF GPA scale and grading policy
Quick answer: University of Florida uses the standard 4.0 scale. a = 4.0, a- = 3.67, b+ = 3.33, etc. UF recalculates GPA from your transcript using core academic courses only and adds standard weight (+1.0) for AP/IB/AICE and +0.5 for Honors.

How Florida recalculates GPA for admission
UF recalculates GPA from your transcript using core academic courses only and adds standard weight (+1.0) for AP/IB/AICE and +0.5 for Honors. The number you submit on your transcript and the number UF uses in its admission decision may differ. Use the calculator above to model both — switch the preset to match Florida's policy.
Maintaining a good UF GPA
- Bright Futures unlocks free tuition at 3.5 weighted. The Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholarship covers 100% of tuition at UF for in-state students with a 3.5+ weighted GPA, SAT 1330+ or ACT 29+, and 100 community service hours. The Medallion award (75% tuition) lowers the cutoff to 3.0 + SAT 1210.
- UF grade forgiveness has a hard cap. You can retake up to 3 courses where you earned C- or lower in your first attempt — only the second grade counts in cumulative GPA. The original grade stays on the transcript with a "GR" notation but no longer affects the average.
- Dean's List requires 12+ graded credits at 3.75. S/U-graded courses and internships don't count toward the 12-credit minimum — a common oversight that disqualifies students who otherwise hit the GPA number.
- Lombardi Honors needs a 4.0 weighted from high school. If you don't earn direct Honors admission, you can apply for sophomore admission with a 3.5+ college GPA — Lombardi admits roughly 1 in 8 applicants annually.
