How Indiana recalculates GPA for admission
IU admission considers your school GPA and class rank. AP/IB rigor is reviewed in context. The number you submit on your transcript and the number IU uses in its admission decision may differ. Use the calculator above to model both — switch the preset to match Indiana's policy.
Maintaining a good IU GPA
- Hutton Honors needs 3.7+ from high school. Apply by November 1 for priority Hutton scholarships. The honors program offers stipends for research, study abroad, and capstone projects — separate from general IU merit aid.
- Kelley direct admit is selective. Direct admit to Kelley typically requires 3.8+ unweighted, 1300+ SAT, and a business-focused essay. Students denied direct admit can apply during sophomore year with 3.5+ in pre-business courses.
- Course retake replaces full grade. IU's grade-replacement policy (FX option) lets retaken grades fully replace original ones in cumulative GPA, with no per-degree cap — but the original grade remains on transcript with an X notation.
