How BYU recalculates GPA for admission
BYU reviews weighted and unweighted GPA with course rigor consideration. Seminary participation also reviewed. The number you submit on your transcript and the number BYU uses in its admission decision may differ. Use the calculator above to model both — switch the preset to match BYU's policy.
Maintaining a good BYU GPA
- Ecclesiastical endorsement is mandatory. Every applicant — LDS or not — needs a clergy endorsement. Non-LDS applicants get this from their own faith leader. Skipping or delaying this step is the most common application-disqualifier.
- LDS tuition is roughly half the standard rate. Active LDS students pay around $3,200/semester; non-LDS students pay roughly $6,400. The non-LDS rate is still competitive vs other private universities.
- Honors Program admits at 3.85+ with separate application. BYU Honors requires the standard application plus an Honors-specific essay and faculty interview. Honors students complete a thesis and get priority registration.
