How Texas A&M recalculates GPA for admission
Texas A&M considers both rank and GPA. Honors and AP rigor is reviewed in the holistic decision. The number you submit on your transcript and the number TAMU uses in its admission decision may differ. Use the calculator above to model both — switch the preset to match Texas A&M's policy.
Maintaining a good TAMU GPA
- Top 10% Texas rule auto-admits. Texas residents in the top 10% of their high school class are automatically admitted to TAMU — same as the state's Top 6% UT Austin rule but with a higher percentage cap. Major-specific admission may still require review.
- Mays Business School direct admit needs 3.5+ + top 25%. Mays is one of the more competitive direct-admit majors. Holistic review favors students with calculus completed, 3.5+ unweighted, and top 25% high school class rank.
- Q-drop policy lets you drop low grades. TAMU allows students to drop a course (Q-drop) up to 3 times across the degree, removing it from GPA entirely. Strategic use early in the term protects your GPA from a clearly-failing class.
