How UC Irvine recalculates GPA for admission
Uses UC capped weighted GPA formula. The number you submit on your transcript and the number UCI uses in its admission decision may differ. Use the calculator above to model both — switch the preset to match UC Irvine's policy.
Maintaining a good UCI GPA
- ICS is the prestige CS track. The Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences is a separate UCI school dedicated to computer science. Software Engineering and CS at ICS admit at higher selectivity than CS at the Engineering school.
- Campuswide Honors Collegium needs 4.0+ UC-GPA. CHC admits roughly 250 students per year. Honors students get smaller classes, priority registration, and a research thesis option. Apply separately during the UCI application.
- Merage Business doesn't direct-admit freshmen. Merage operates as a sophomore-application school. Plan for entry through L&S Economics or Business Economics, then apply to Merage with 3.3+ UCI GPA after prereq completion.
